Happy Memorial Day. Today I am especially grateful for the service of our military men and women. My thoughts are with their families too. Lisa Ling tweeted this story that broke my heart.
This blog entry is all over the place…
- Question. How does anything get done in Texas? The heat makes me so tired!
My friend Jenn (who turned 20 today. Happy Birthday love!) and I wanted to check out the Memorial Day sale at Half Price Books today. Additional 20 percent off everything? Yes please! Sweating and thighs getting stuck on the leather of the car seat? No thanks.
- My first day back has been rather relaxing. I’ve taken two showers already, helped my dad paint our deck, and spent some time combing through images for inspiration (working on a small project). Here’s a great image I came across in my search:

- Tonight I’m going out with Peter. We’re trying to get together Monday nights this summer. This is blog-worthy. Do you want to know why? Because I’m in a long distance relationship. For you people who get to see your bf/gf on a regular basis….don’t take your dates for granted!!! There’s a lot of cool stuff in Austin I’ve been wanting to check out. I’ll keep you guys updated on what fun (and affordable) dates we go on. Here’s one idea…
- We cooked with my sister and her boyfriend and our friends Ashley and Andy before I left for NYC. Peter and I were in charge of appetizers. Kae and James made the main course (really delicious burgers) and Ashley and Andy “made” dessert (s’mores!). Cooking with a group is a fun and easy way to save money. Plus clean up is quick!

- My bestie Anne is running all over Europe. Check out her tumblr for updates! Join me in traveling vicariously through her.
- I start my intern tomorrow! Exciting!

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I’m crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you’re going I’m going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There’s such a lot of world to see.
We’re after the same rainbow’s end–
waiting ’round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.

This is my I-can’t-wait-to-eat-shake-shack face. My favorite part was the flavor-of-the-day concrete we ordered (dense vanilla frozen custard with strawberries and orange poppy-seed caramel!). This is also my I-love-New-York face. I love this city, but I know by the end of the week I’ll be ready to leave. I got emails from some Clink ladies today and I was ridiculously excited to hear from them. I have a cool internship waiting for me in Austin when I get back and a lot of people I can’t wait to hang out with this summer. I am blessed.

A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are for.
Off to New York City. See you in a week!

We finally celebrated Mother’s Day today. Kae and I took my mom to Sushi Zushi for dinner, the Paramount for a showing of Casablanca, and dessert at the Driskill. I love you Mommy!

I am in need of a new header image now that Kae is no longer blogging on misskite. I’ll be sure to link her New York blog when she has it set up.
The above image is inspiring me. Love the simplicity.
The below image is reminding me to sign up for dance classes this summer.
