The Internship Diaries #1

I felt like the Austin equivalent of Andy from The Devil Wears Prada today at my intern. Sure I wasn’t chartered in a limousine around New York City to pick up skirts from Calvin Klein or scarves from Hermes, but I did pick up a big order of Tiff’s Treats for the office. It was strangely glamorous (the boots I was wearing helped this no doubt). It’s cool to realize that all magazines work the same way. Other interns like me are running errands, researching photos, and fact checking no matter how big or small the publication. My boss was so humble about it too! She kept emphasizing that it wasn’t a fun errand but that she really appreciated my help and the added bonus? I could take home all the leftover treats.

I like how I can see the city skyline on my drive back. I flip through magazines all day. I work with extremely talented designers. I learn. I flow text in magazine spreads. I link photos. I watch the magazine come together. I play with thousands of fonts. I dress up for work. It’s like the movies. The best part about my intern though?

When I arrive home and get to call James.

It rained again today

I made this image last time it rained, but I forgot to upload it, and suddenly it was perfect LA weather again. I still don’t own a pair of rain boots. I also don’t have an umbrella. And I’m actually not a huge fan of this print. I much prefer the Kate Spade ad I ripped out of a Vogue and tacked on our wall.

Here’s an old picture of our living room wall. It’s made up of attractive men, dancers, food, pictures of us, etc. I’ll take a more recent picture later. It has grown a lot. Patrick Dempsey is no longer the focal point. Jess and I replaced him with Channing Tatum after seeing Dear John .

I am failing miserably as a blogger. This is why one day Helen will graduate and be some social media director for a big company and I’ll be a poor assistant to an editor (striving to be an assistant editor) at a print magazine. Sorry, folks I’ll try to step it up.

Random Today Tidbits:

- My morning wake-up alarm was a call from James!

- Did not realize it was possible to talk about atomic number for 50 minutes.

- Was part of a heated discussion about journalism ethics in class.

- Just got back from a giving meeting for Salina Street Church.

- Made two prosciutto sandwiches. Yes, two. Don’t judge me.

- Whole Foods dinner with roomies. Such an awesome place to people watch. Way tooo pricey though. I always get salad since it weighs less in the per lb buffet. That’s the trick people- leaves, they weigh nothing.

- Got in some prayer and reading time at the Blanton. Read Daniel 1 & 2. He always points things to God. Very good lesson for us believers. Good example: Daniel 2:19-23

- Excited to see Ashley and Pallavi tomorrow!

Snow Day

Didn’t have to go into the office today for my intern. Working on my resume while listening to the Austin Stone sermon’s. Good stuff.

Been MIA on the blog these last few days cause I’ve been hanging with James all weekend! This guy is the biggest blessing in my life.
